Plant Protein Market

• Chunk Foods enters into a retail     partnership with Vegan Essentials.
• According to new guidance from the FDA, locally grown pistachios are officially recognized as a complete protein source.
• Plant-based company Misha's acquires Vertage, driving a new layout of the plant-based cheese market.
• Ingredion Incorporated announced on January 8 that it will cease operations at Vanscoy’s legume crop processing plant in Saskatchewan, Canada, starting this week. The plant mainly produces protein concentrates sourced from peas, lentils, and broad beans.
• The U.S. FDA recently issued draft guidance on the labeling of plant-based alternatives to animal foods, recommending that plant-based foods clearly indicate their plant ingredients on packaging, especially highlighting plant sources in product names or identity claims.
• Ecotricity has opened the UK's first entirely plant-based restaurant.
• On January 21, plant-based meat maker Tender announced it had received a $5.4 million grant from the U.S. DOE.

• Baoding Meat Company recently launched a new product - Bird's nest peptide hemp seed protein powder.
• Ferrero launches Nutella Plant-Based spread in the German market.
• Harvest B has partnered with Ooshman Modern Lebanese Bakehouse to launch innovative plant-based pizzas (spicy chicken pizza and Mediterranean beef pizza).
• Burcon NutraScience Corporation has launched a new product, SolateinTM, a high-purity sunflower protein   isolate. The product has a neutral taste, gray color, and its protein content can exceed 90%.
• Plantible Foods is the first company to extract the natural enzyme RuBisCO (also known as Rubi protein) from duckweed. Duckweed contains seven times more protein than soy and is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

The Plant Protein Research Progress

• Extrusion equipment manufacturer Clextral USA has developed a plant-textured     protein line. The line combines shear fibrosis and continuous extrusion processes to produce the plant-textured proteins, which have a softer texture.
• Molecular agriculture pioneer PoLoPo has announced that its genetically modified potato (high protein potato) has reached the point where it can be grown in the field.
• A new study from Japan suggests that a sustained intake of soy milk with high soy protein may help improve walking speed in older adults, especially in older adults with faster walking speeds and higher levels of daily activity.
